Continuing the little dictionary of fetish is Body Modification can be defined as permanently altering of a body for reasons of looks, self pleasure or alternate beliefs. The width and breath of the changes can be massive. For example, wearing ear rings is a socially acceptable form of body modification. At the other end of the scale people can be circumcised as a requirement of their religion. Other people do it for self pleasure or just to stand out from the crowd with such things as a Prince Albert (A special type of male piercing for the penis) or nipple piercings.

Tattoos can even be seen as a form of body modification. Within bondage body modification has its place, for example branding as an extreme form of ownership.

In some countries women have their clitoris removed to prevent them from achieving pleasure from sex. This is still a widespread and dangerous practice as the procedure is usually preformed by people who are not medically trained to undertake such activities.
