Being a kinkster, there is no way round it, eventually you are going to have to buy some toys! Now quality kinkster toys aren’t cheap, often several tens of dollars.

To make them last longer and be safer it pays to look after them well. Below is a general guide to caring and looking after your toys.

The secret to easy care of toys is to look at how they need to be cared for when shopping, and only buy toys that you feel you can take care of. For example, if you like dildo play and are (like me) lazy then the easy answer is to go for glass pyrex ones as these are super easy to clean. All you have to do is stick them in the dishwasher. Seriously. A lot of toys, if you check, are actually dishwasher safe. Sounds amazing, i know, but its true.

For most internal rubber and silicone type devices, such as non mechanical vibros, dildos, chastity belts should all be washed in warm anti bacterial soapy water. Also after you have washed and dried them, wrapping them in clingfilm helps keep them clean and hygenic during storage. It really is that easy. It should perhaps be mentioned here that any cracked toys or chipped glass toys should be thrown away immediatly as they really do constitute a danger to yourself, imagine getting a nick somewhere unimaginable for cheaping out. It should go without saying that if your partner requires a chastity belt or other intimate item worn for a long time, proper hygene rules should be adhered too. Don’t want anything get infected now do we? So clean it and the part of the body daily to remove deposits and such, and your partner will also be more appealing because they smell better! If you want a nice fresh smell to them, safe in the knowledge they are clean and bacteria free, check out the special toy soap. Ok its not cheap, but it makes em fresh and clean and does a more effective job of cleaning them than plain soap and water (although that is ok btw, just make sure the water is warm/hot)

To save you time and any mess, you can buy a glass plug quite inexpensively and it will last a looong time. Its nice n cold too, or am I just too damn kinky ? ;)

It’s also worth mentioning that after you have a few toys it is worth investing in a toy bag so not only does it keep all your gear in once place, clean and dry but it also is more discreet than just keeping them in the bedside cabinet. Don’t go to an expensive store to buy your toy bag, a normal small suitcase will suffice, or two if you are greedy. If you fancy perhaps giving a gift of a dildo to your loved one if you fancy some frisky fun, check out this cute little dildo toy bag

Latex follows a similar care regime, in as much as it isn’t difficult, it just requires discipline and a bit of common sense. Latex degrades over time but with careful use and care can last a long long time.

Firstly when putting on rubber items of clothing, use plenty of talcum powder. It will help to get it on but it will also help you resist the urge to be a bit heavy handed with it.

Latex is a delicate material. Items such as perfume, deodorants etc can attack the material and weaken it. Therefore be careful what you put on before you get into your latex clothes. Also if you like the latex to shine, by all means apply polish, but make sure it is suitable for rubber garments. Apply the latex shine AFTER you put the clothes on, its easier and gives a better finish.

When you have finished playing in your latex, it is always wise to carefully remove it and turn it inside out and wipe down with a damp cloth. Whatever you do, don’t wipe down the outside with the cloth because water can cause nasty stains to latex clothing. The act of wiping down also helps remove any bodily fluids and also the reminants of the talc that could cause problems if not removed.

Once the garment is dry and turned back to its normal way (ie not inside out) store it in a bin bag or similar because sunlight can wreak havoc on latex and cause it to become brittle over time. The black back at the bottom of the wardrobe will help minimise any potential damage to it.

In general, kinky toys that are more expensive will last a lot longer. It’s all about realising that they are like anything of value, look after them properly, clean them properly and they will serve you well. Just think carefuly when buying and if you are careful when you pick em, they will clean themselves (well the dishwasher will ;) )
